HHI week 2014 May 3 - 10. Over 20 Horsemen Invading Hilton Head ... Not Just Strong, Horsemen Strong!!
An actual email from some fans
Hi- We are a group of tennis players- actually a couple of families from xxxxxxxxxxx, New York, that have been coming down to HHI since 1990. That was when a couple of the kids were in the Van Der Meer program. They were about 10 years old then and they are still coming down with us at 34 years old! We just love to play like crazy and we come down religiously the first or second week in May and October.
We ran into the Horsemen one day at Shipyard when we arrived to watch one of the evening exhibitions and we heard the engines announce your arrival! Since then, we always hope to run into you, which we have on a few occasions. We missed you last year. We really enjoy your exhibitions with the local pros. We were just wondering if you guys are coming down this May? If you are, please let us know and where you will be. We are there fromMay 4- May10.
We are your fans!

Ever wonder what goes through a contemplative Horseman's mind while riding the "scouter" down the road?
In 1986 ... or was it 1985 ... whatever... a group of rag-tag tennis players from Olympic Indoor Tennis Center in Columbus, OH got together over (too many) beers one night.
"What if..." it was asked. "we all just got up and got away for a week of down-and-dirty, no-holds-barred, rock-em-sock-em tennis?" "We want sweat, blood and tears ... we want play tennis, hit hard and dig balls until we puke!"
And so the legend of the Horsemen was born. That first year, 1986, The Horsemen left an indelible mark on Hilton Head Island ... and the Dennis Van der Meer Tennis center. Neither will ever be the same.
The original 4 horsemen ... Will, Mike, Rich and Jimi have continued to maintain the madness every year since. Our history is storied .. and the legendary exploits continue. As many as 16 other "Horsemen" have joined us through the years.
One has gone to a better place .. and his memory is with us with every wild and crazy exploit. Here's to "The Mayo". May he live in us forever.
